Phase Assignments and Expectations
Cub Group - To move to the Badger group the following needs to be completed or shown: Must pass off therapeutic curriculum packet for the intro phase. They must complete the introspection experience. Shows willingness to do some work. Completes all assessments for substance abuse or dependence. Shows satisfactory participation in all group sessions. Demonstrates safe and compliant behavior. Breaks through denial and comes forward with ownership and honesty of everything they have done in the past. Acknowledges the life problems the drugs/alcohol have caused them. Shows evidence to be in the Contemplation stage of change (acknowledges having a problem but is not yet ready to make specific behavioral changes).
Badger - To move to the Coyote group the following needs to be completed or shown: Must pass off therapeutic curriculum packet for the Badger phase. Reads a chosen therapeutic book and writes a book report answering a set of chosen questions assigned to the youth.(All books will be from a therapeutic list and may be chosen for them if it is felt needed). Participates well in all forms of therapy. Shows the ability to recognize thinking errors. Is able to acknowledge consequences of problem behaviors or Drugs/alcohol as seen by others. Is able to verbally acknowledge and accept having problem behaviors and in need of help. Is able to verbalize increased knowledge of their problems and if using drugs/alcohol have an understanding of addiction and the recovery process. Shows satisfactory participation in all group sessions and abstains from any form of contracting. Shows the ability to do work responsibly. Shows the ability to be a good group member. Stays consistent with the rules of the program. Shows evidence to be in the Preparation stage of change (starts planning to make changes).
Coyote - To move to the Wolf group the following needs to be completed or shown: Must pass off therapeutic curriculum packet for Coyote phase. Must pass off 2nd book report. Participates and engages well in all forms of therapy. Is able to identify feelings and verbalize symptoms of anxiety or depression. Demonstrates the ability to stop, think, listen, and plan before acting. Shows the ability to recognize and correct thinking errors. Shows satisfactory participation in all group sessions and abstains from any form of contracting. Shows the ability to work hard and takes initiative in work projects. Shows the ability to be a good group member. Stays consistent with the rules of the program and shows that they can enforce them. Shows evidence to be in the Action stage of change (begins making changes by modifying behavior, environment, or experiences to overcome problems).
Wolf - To move to the Lion group the following needs to be completed or shown: Must pass off therapeutic curriculum packet for Wolf phase. Shows the ability to recognize and correct thinking errors and recognizes their connection to relapse. Is able to break ties with all substance using friends and friends who are negative influences. Rekindles relationships with friends who were good influences and will support and encourage sobriety. Is able to identify family dynamics and interpersonal stressors that are relapse triggers. Participates and engages well in all forms of therapy. Shows consistency as a leader in the group. Shows satisfactory participation in all group sessions and abstains from any form of contracting. Is in line with and shows an understanding of what Positive Peer Culture is about. Shows the ability to be a great group member. Stays consistent with the rules of the program and enforces the rules at all times. Is acting as a mentor/peer counselor for someone in the Badger group. Helps run all house meetings. Shows consistency in all monitor assignments. Treats everyone with respect and maintains humility pertaining to their status and leadership. Has consistently had successful home visits with no problems. Finds and is committed to attend an after care outpatient program and support group. Shows evidence to be in the Maintenance stage of change (works to maintain the gains and continually works to prevent relapse).
Lion - To discharge from the program the following needs to be completed or shown: Must pass off level work packet for Lion group. Participates and engages well in all forms of therapy. Shows consistency as a leader in the group. Shows satisfactory participation in all group sessions and abstains from any form of contracting. Is in line with and shows an understanding of what Positive Peer Culture is about. Shows the ability to be a great group member. Stays consistent with the rules of the program and enforces the rules at all times Pass off being a good and consistent Mentor/Peer Counselor. Attends staff meetings upon request and shows consistency with staff and peers. Treats everyone with respect and maintains humility pertaining to their status and leadership. Has consistently had successful home visits with no problems and has started to attend outpatient services. Shows confidence and growth. Develops a written relapse prevention plan that supports maintaining sobriety. Increases the families participation and knowledge of the sobriety plan. Is actively seeking support from their support team. Is involved with community services and actively participating. Is lined up for a job, the military, or further schooling. Continues to show evidence to be in the Maintenance stage of change.
