Our Core Values
Family
Everything we do is focused around families. Even when working with adolescents, the most effective treatment must always involve the family. That is why we established KW Legacy Ranch as a family-focused program. Whether your entire family is out on the ranch working together, or it’s just your son, we are focused on giving everybody the tools and experiences you need to be a happy, successful family.
This is why we offer family visits on the ranch. This is why we offer family coaching, family counseling, family assessments, parenting courses, reunification strategies, and so much more. Our goal is to help your family succeed…period.

Ranch
We believe that a ranch is one of the absolute best places for a family and teen to heal. There are times in life when your teen may need a change of context in a neutral setting to disrupt unhealthy patterns and to boost him into new habits. The ranch provides a peaceful setting, away from the distractions of technology, friends, substances, and other disruptions, and allows him to gain clarity and focus in his life. This will become a time when your teen will really be able to become grounded again in the things that are most important in life.
There are several other reasons that a ranch works wonders. It provides an opportunity for your teen to feel empowered, needed, and proud of his work. The activities on a ranch help adolescents build self-esteem and self-worth through the accomplishment of vital activities. There is a strong correlation between responsibility and self-esteem. The more responsibility we provide our students, the more we see their confidence grow. They can’t help it.
Kurt Hahn is credited as saying “students need to feel needed to feel empowered.” Our students know they are needed as they become essential participants in helping the ranch function. The beauty of it all is that these aren’t meaningless tasks that someone made up so that kids will stay busy and out of trouble. This isn’t an artificial environment set up to manipulate change from teens. This is real life! The daily chores and responsibilities are activities that MUST be accomplished or the ranch dies. Our students definitely feel needed, then empowered, which in turn grows their self-esteem.
The ranch also provides wonderful opportunities to learn work ethic. It helps adolescents get away from any sense of entitlement as they begin to truly appreciate what they may have taken for granted in life. The ranch helps teens learn to work together to accomplish tasks. The animals provide many therapeutic opportunities to help your teen learn as well.
We have seen the ranch setting work miracles in the past and believe it to be one of the most effective tools you will ever find to help families and teens.

Legacy
Many people ask us what the KW stands for in KW Legacy Ranch. The founders of the program both have grandfathers with the initials of KW. In fact, the ranch where KW resides today is the same ranch that has been in this family for over 100 years.
Both these men have passed along a lasting legacy for us, for the rest of our family members, for the community, and for countless other individuals. Their legacies now continue to live on through all of the families and students who come through the program. So it was with these legacies in mind that we created the program to help families and teens begin to think about their own legacy.
We believe that there are legacies in your family-past, present, and future that are waiting to be told. A legacy is a gift passed down from an ancestor or predecessor. At KW Legacy Ranch we want your family to begin to think about your legacy. What gifts have the people in your life given you? For our teens, what is it that their parents, family, grandparents have provided for them? We push them to begin thinking about what kind of person they want to become. What gifts do they want to leave on this world? How do they want to be remembered? What legacy do they want to leave for their own family?
These are the questions that can begin to be answered at KW Legacy Ranch.
