"The KW Legacy Ranch staff saved my son's life. He was rapidly heading down the wrong road, hanging out with the wrong crowd, under the influence of drugs/alcohol on a daily basis and failing in school despite being quite bright. We had tried counseling, therapy and any avenue that we thought might help, all to no avail. As a 17 year old, we knew that something had to be done prior to his becoming 18...We were at our wits end when we learned of the Ranch. Based upon a strong reference we gave it a try, as scary as it was to send our son from the east coast to the west coast, having never seen or met the staff. That leap of faith certainly paid off. Our son spent 8 mos at the ranch and it total turned his life around. The ranch maintains a low resident load in order to devote the necessary time to each kid. The staff are great, caring and loving. The treatment is non punitive, reward driven and based upon the best of several other programs in a working farm environment. A strong emphasis is placed upon the patient learning of their heritage/legacy and why they should be proud of who they are. "For all of those reading this review, I want you to know that I believe KW Legacy Ranch is the best HOME away from HOME. Sending my two kids away was one of the hardest decisions (and the best) of my life. My son was 17 and my daughter was 14 at the time. We had done research for months and knew our son was getting to a dangerous point (getting completely dependent on drugs and alcohol, experimenting with harder drugs, failing high school, and the list goes on). Our daughter on the other hand, was just about to start high school and was starting to drink alcohol and experiment with smoking. I knew we needed professional help with my son but I felt that it was a good idea to get my daughter on the right track before she started her high school years. Both children had similar challenges such as drugs/alcohol abuse and disrespect; however, the degrees of abuse were very different and the Ranch was able to facilitate both their needs. The Ranch has the ability to facilitate the different needs through a variety of ways. The 12 step program allows them to be held accountable for their actions...The amazing outdoor environment filled with animals was a huge plus for my daughter. She LOVES animals and right away felt a connection with the Ranch. The same outdoor environment taught my son how to work hard and he realized that WORKING hard made him FEEL GOOD. After working on the ranch he actually developed a love for animals as well. The students at the Ranch are surrounded by amazing staff who aid them with online classes, provide top notch counseling for individual needs and teach them hard work, discipline and respect. I have yet to see or hear of any other facility that does these things in such a loving, compassionate and family oriented environment. The people who run the program are so genuine and caring and know how to turn kids around in a way that really makes them look inside themselves. My two kids came back closer to each other and the Ranch is what gave them this opportunity to develop the special bond they have. It has been [several] months since our grandson has been home from his life changing stay at KW Legacy Ranch.
I had to write you to express our deepest gratitude to all of you for the transformation of our grandson in the many months he was in your care.
The previous live-in rehab had been such a disappointment and hadn't made a dent in the façade he had built to 'look' okay and say the right things. They had not been able to pull out any of what was causing him to self medicate.
I know he was determined to hold that same hard line at the ranch when he arrived but...you were able to finally break down his walls and open him up. The only reason he was able to receive help was because you were able to do that. He knew he was safe and loved by everyone there. He finally laid his heavy load of pain, anger and hopelessness that had built up in just 15 years of life out in the open for you to help him work his way through it all.
The skills you taught him to handle his particular challenges have given him the tools and guidance he needed to stop his destructive, self-medicating drug use. He is now a strong confident 'man' at 16! The work, discipline, structure, and the ranch life taught him the self confidence and gratification and fulfillment of a days labor. He was finally happy with himself and realized his value and loved himself. Working with the animals taught him the satisfaction and joy of caring for another.
He so admires the man you are Rocky and will always remember learning about horses and along the way was shown that a real man can be strong, brave, capable and a leader without ego and be so sensitive and loving all at the same time.

The experience was a very scary one for us as we were sending our son across the country to folks that we had no real knowledge of and basically were relying upon your guidance...We really had no good choices but knew that we had to do something to get [our son] back on track.
Luke did a good job on the front end keeping us updated with weekly calls and telling us what to expect as the process began. We eventually met the staff and found them to be very competent and attentive to the mission of the program. After my initial visit, I can tell you that I felt very comfortable with the program and knew that we had made the right decision. I told [my son's] mother as we left after our first trip that while I hated leaving him...it was much better to leave him there than at a Fla. Dept. of Corrections facility, which is where he was quickly heading. Over time we got to know the primary staff as well as Yancy, Luke and his family.
While I realize that the program wasn't a total cure all for [our son], I can tell you that the end result is amazing. Luke and Yancy have taken the best of past programs where they have worked and molded those practices into a program that really worked for [our son]. They have been very welcoming to us as visitors/parents and I could tell that they were genuinely interested in [our son's] development and that they are very passionate about their work. On a family visit with grandparents/cousins etc., they even took time out of their schedule to take us on a sightseeing expedition into the desert.
While I know I don’t need to endorse the KW program to you, I will do so. I would highly recommend the program and really see it as [our son's] rebirth. Without the program, I know that we would have lost him. He is a very bright young man who has a lot of potential but he had basically given up on himself and turned to drugs/alcohol. He now has a second chance at life and...he can earn his high school education and apply the farm based skills that he learned at the ranch.

They have been very welcoming to us as visitors/parents and I could tell that they were genuinely interested in [our son's] development and that they are very passionate about their work. On a family visit with grandparents/cousins etc., they even took time out of their schedule to take us on a sightseeing expedition into the desert.
While I know I don’t need to endorse the KW program to you, I will do so. I would highly recommend the program and really see it as [our son's] rebirth. Without the program, I know that we would have lost him. He is a very bright young man who has a lot of potential but he had basically given up on himself and turned to drugs/alcohol. He now has a second chance at life and...he can earn his high school education and apply the farm based skills that he learned at the ranch.
